Ask serious theme-park fans to name the world’s best park and the answer often comes quickly: Tokyo DisneySea. Opened in 2001, it replaces the familiar castle hub with seven ports of call inspired by nautical myths and legends. From the vast Mount Prometheus volcano to the new Fantasy Springs, DisneySea is an extraordinary piece of architecture, atmosphere and visual storytelling.
Fantasy Springs: DisneySea’s landmark expansion
Tokyo DisneySea’s largest expansion, Fantasy Springs, opened in June 2024. The new port brings three modern Disney stories into a richly landscaped corner of the park:
- Frozen Kingdom recreates Arendelle and includes Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey, a longer and more technically ambitious adventure than Epcot’s Frozen ride.
- Peter Pan’s Never Land is home to the immersive 3D attraction Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure and the family-friendly Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies.
- Rapunzel’s Forest centres on Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, whose floating-lantern scene is recreated with remarkable warmth and realism.
Important: A regular park ticket alone does not guarantee access to Fantasy Springs. As soon as you enter, use the Tokyo Disney Resort app to obtain a free Standby Pass or buy Disney Premier Access (DPA) for a Fantasy Springs attraction. Availability can disappear within minutes.
📶 Data and the Disney app
The app is essential for managing Fantasy Springs access. Do not risk relying on patchy roaming: an eSIM keeps maps, wait times and booking tools available throughout the day.

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Hidden inside Mount Prometheus, this Tokyo-exclusive attraction uses a high-speed vehicle system and Jules Verne-inspired scenery to spectacular effect. Its final burst out of the volcano remains one of the park’s defining moments.
Tower of Terror
Forget The Twilight Zone. Tokyo’s version tells the story of arrogant explorer Harrison Hightower III and the cursed idol Shiriki Utundu. The effects inside the lift and the elaborate hotel design make it one of the finest Tower of Terror variants anywhere.
Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage
Do not overlook it because it looks gentle. Many fans consider this the world’s best slow dark ride. Alan Menken’s “Compass of Your Heart” and Sinbad’s tiger companion Chandu give the journey a joyfully memorable finish.
Soaring: Fantastic Flight
Tokyo’s Soaring has an exceptional queue that introduces aviator Camellia Falco and the Museum of Fantastic Flight. The pre-show, including a painting that springs to life, is Disney storytelling at its most polished.
Getting there and getting around
DisneySea sits beside Tokyo Disneyland. Travel to Maihama Station, then take the paid Disney Resort Line monorail from Resort Gateway Station. Its Mickey-shaped windows make the short journey part of the experience.
- From Maihama: Leave the station and turn left for Resort Gateway Station.
- For DisneySea: Take the monorail three stops to Tokyo DisneySea Station; the entrance is directly ahead.
Food, drinks and small discoveries
DisneySea has long allowed alcoholic drinks, unlike Tokyo Disneyland. Make time for Gyoza Dogs in Mysterious Island, a steamed bun filled with oversized gyoza; Little Green Men Dumplings, the Toy Story mochi filled with custard, chocolate and strawberry; and Magellan’s, the park’s most refined restaurant inside a grand fortress. If you dine there, ask about the small hidden room behind the bookcase.
Travel insurance for Japan
Japan is an excellent country to travel in, but overseas medical bills can still be substantial. Comprehensive travel insurance with medical cover and assistance is a sensible part of planning any long-haul trip.
